5 Things I Wish I Thanked My Parent For Before It Was Too Late

Nine times out of 10, we forget to thank our parents for the little things. Something I sadly had to learn this past year was never let something small go unnoticed because, sometimes by the time you want to say thank you, it may be too late. There are many things I wish I could tell my Dad at this current moment, but there’s a few that stand out to me the most.

1. Thank you for always being strict with me.

I know when I was growing up and you made me come home early, not have sleepovers, not allow me at a house unless there was a parent home, always spy on me when I was walking around town and yelled at me for being stupid. I would get so upset, but looking back on it now that I’m older, I thank God that you did.

2. Thank you for teaching me what respect means.

Whether it was respecting family, friends, or how a man should treat a woman, you were always the person to teach me these lessons. You never would let me get away with disrespect to anyone.

3. Thank you for always being there to listen.

No matter what the drama was that day all the way to how upset I was about doing bad on a test or missing homework, I always could have counted on you to listen to me when I needed to whine about something that had happen that day, or even that very second.

4. Thank you for always protecting me.

Thank you for always making me feel safe emotionally, mentally, and physically. Since the day God took you from me, I haven’t felt as safe as I ever did when you were here. You were my rock, protector, and hero.

5. Thank you for making me who I am today.

Thank you for molding me into the person I am today. Without your constant pep talks, guidance, and motivation, I wouldn’t have succeeded in half the things I have done these past few years. Everything I do now, I do for you. Without you telling me everything will be OK, I would never have turned into the person I am today. You always made me feel like I could conquer the world as long as I had a dream to chase. I know if you were hear today, you would be so proud of all I have accomplished since God took you from me.

I love you so much & miss you always, my perfect guardian angel.
