If you could go back three to four years, what would you tell your freshman self?
Here are five tips that freshmen should live by.
1. The "Freshman 15" is real. Unfortunately, this is not a myth. Soon, harmless late- night Pizza X or Jimmy John's turns into an everyday ritual. Do yourself a favor and stock up on healthy alternatives from the grocery store. Trust me, it's worth the extra five dollars.
2. Your roommate doesn't have to be your best friend. Finding a roommate can be stressful, especially when you go to a school where you don't know anyone. It can be tempting to room with a mutual friend, but do your research first (AKA Facebook stalk). I know it sounds creepy, but if you don't look at what your future roommate is like, you could be in a lot of trouble. Remember, you don't have to be friends. You just have to learn how to live with one another.
3. Meal points are your friend. Yes, the dining hall is gross, and yes, everything they sell is dripping in grease. But in a few short months when you no longer live in the dorms or have meal points, you will miss it. Take advantage of these points for as long as you can!
4. The weekend starts on Thursday. Don't sign up for Friday classes. Period. You will learn that as the school year progresses, more kids will begin their weekends either Wednesday or Thursday. Treat yourself to Fridays off and enjoy your three-day weekend.
5. It's just school. Relax. Don't get me wrong, education is important and that's why you are at school. However, don't lose sight on all of the great things college has to offer. These next four years are your last hoorah before entering the "real world." Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way and don't be afraid of disappointing anyone.
