College is a new world in itself. You go from being sheltered at home with your parents always around to do your laundry or cook for you, and asking you where you're going at least 20 times a day. That all changes the second you step onto a college campus.
1.It's ok if you don't know what you want to do with your life yet
Everyone thinks that you need to know exactly what you want to be the minute you start applying to colleges. No one realizes you have a decent amount of time to actually declare a major. People switch majors all the time and sometimes more than once. Now I’m not saying it it isn't going to require work, because it will but if it's something you really want to do then the extra work will benefit you in the long run.
2. It’s ok to go home once in awhile
It's always good to get a little break from school and go home to your own bed and home cooked meals… as long as it doesn't become a habit. Going home every weekend will not benefit you. Weekends are supposed to be your time to go out and meet people and you can't do that if you're at home with your family every weekend. Try to spend time at school meeting people and getting involved.3. It's ok not to have a set group of friends right away
Everyone assumes that as soon as you get to school you need to make a friend group. That isn't the case, you can make friends individually and then eventually it all comes together. Friend groups change from freshman year to senior year, people come and go but give it time and you will meet the group of girls and guys that you want to spend your time with.
4. Don't worry about what other people think
There are new people all around you, and its a fact that everyone judges other people at some point. As a freshman you're the lowest on "the food chain" but don't let that stop you from having fun. Don't not do something because you're worried about what others will say about you. Be your own person and create the life you want for yourself.
5. Step out of your comfort zone
Going to college is the first time you really leave your comfort zone. You leave everything you know and grew up with and go to a place where you don't know anyone and are basically living on your own. Do yourself a favor and don't be afraid to do things that scare you, or that you think you would like but aren't sure you can do it. Try it and see because it might end up being something you love. College is full of endless opportunities and getting a head start freshman year will help you in the long run.
As you've probably been told, college is the best 4 years of your life, so use it wisely and don't be afraid to go after what you want!
