5 Things Twins Can Relate

Why being a twin is awesome.

Not everybody can say that they have a sibling. Especially, the fact that their sibling is their twin. Being a twin has a lot of perks. That being, said there a lot of things that come with being a twin. Some things are pretty amazing. The others, are just a bit annoying.

5. We do not have "twin powers."

Contrary to many thoughts out there, we cannot read each other’s thoughts. I only know what she is feeling, because typically my 5 foot one inch other half is more than happy to share them. We are sorry to disappoint the world, but if we could read each other’s minds we probably could have avoided half of the arguments we have had over the years. We also cannot use our twin powers to move objects, control minds, etc. We cannot use these powers, because we do not have any. Sorry to disappoint.

4. We are our own separate individuals

Yes, we were “wombmates” until our mother evicted us. Then we became roommates in the real world until we grew up. However, we have a lot of separate opinions, personality quirks, and even clothing style. Our lives are not like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. For the majority of our lives, we have always been able to be identified as two separate human beings. Except for birthdays. For whatever reason, birthday gifts from distant relatives, friends, etc. have a tendency to be for the both of us. We are grateful for them, do not get us wrong. However, there only so many ways we can share a sweater, shoes, or even that time when we five when someone gave us a toy airplane to share. People have a tendency to forget that there are two beings. We might share a birthday, but we are each one of a kind. We enjoy doing our own things most of the time. However, we know that we have each other’s backs at any given moment.

3. It has been awesome to have a wing-man (or woman).

There is always that dread of going to an event, solo. However, when you are a twin you usually can count on that person to be your plus one. To weddings, showers, and parties, your twin will always make sure you do not go in solo. This help eliminates the worry of trying to find someone to go with to events. Need a road trip buddy? Call your twin. Want to go to dinner at your favorite restaurant? Offer you twin food, she’ll be there. Your other half will always be there.

2. You will always have someone to walk through life with

Not everyone is lucky enough to have someone to share milestones with. This is one of the many perks to having a twin. We have shared triumphs, failures, etc. together. We had each other to lean on when things got tough. Or even when we got ourselves in trouble from shenanigans- at least we knew we were both going down for it. When we started college, it was scary. However, we always had someone that understood what was going on. Despite the fact that one was two hours away. We always knew that we had support.

1. There will never be another person who gets us like, well us.

Despite every argument, items thrown at each other’s faces, scream fest, there will never be another individual that will get our dynamic like we do. We can go from yelling to laughing in ten seconds. Having a twin is never dull moment. You always have someone to laugh with or at. Your twin is the only one who can judge you and accept you for every weird quirk that makes you, your wonderful self.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
