"Where do you go to school?"

"Oh, is that in Lubbock? Is there even anything to do in Lubbock?"

Have you ever been faced with answering these types of questions after your move to the good old LBK? If you have, what has been your answer?

For those of you who, like me, didn't think there was anything to do in Lubbock before you got here, are left stumped trying to answer this question, then I have some good news for you.

Here are five things to do in Lubbock to make all the skeptics wish they too lived in the Hub City.

1. Watch a movie at the Stars and Stripes Drive-In

How hard is it to find an actual drive-in movie theatre these days? Stress no more because Lubbock has a one, perfect for college students on a budget. You can view two movies for the price of one! Grab your truck and some friends and head out to catch a recent release.

2. Go hiking at Ransom Canyon

Ransom Canyon is known for being one of the two great hiking places (Palo Duro Canyon being the other) near Lubbock, and almost everyone takes a trip out to hike there. You won't want to miss the view!

3. Check out Buffalo Springs Lake

Buffalo Springs Lake is not too far from Lubbock and if you are looking for the best lake around, then this is it. The lake is perfect place for water fun activities, grilling out, and spending the day relaxing on the water.

4. Go to the First Friday Art Trail

Take a walk through Lubbock’s Cultural District on the first Friday of every month and see some of the best art galleries and have an opportunity to meet the artists.

5. Watch the sunset

The sunsets in Lubbock are probably some of the most gorgeous sunsets you will ever see during your time here on Earth. Find a spot in town or drive out into the countryside, and watch the sunset. It's not something you will want to miss!

Prove the skeptics wrong with your awesome weekend plans, and have a great time!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
