Easily confused with World of War Craft, Runescape is another MMORPG that has shaped many into becoming the person who they are today. Why? Who hasn't played a MMORPG game for more than 24 hours every day? While some may call it an addiction, it is a way of life. Unlike things that we learn in school, I have never had to question when Runescape would be used in the real world. In fact, I can think back to my Freshman year of High School.
It was just an ordinary boring day in Dr. You Know Who's Science Class. We were learning about ores and minerals mixed together to make other things. As I knew they would be, the class was confused. I on the other hand was having the time of my life answering every question that the teacher presented our way. Many would have thought that I was a walking encyclopedia. Runescape was paying off because everything I learned and experienced in the game was applicable in the real world. Here are just five of the many things that Runescape can teach you about life:
1. People will set you up to take what you have i.e #COLDWORLD.
If there is one thing that the higher levels are known for, it is milking the noobs for their loot. This is easily done by convincing a new player who brags about what they have to follow you into the wilderness. New and naive, they think nothing of it. That is until they reach a certain depth of the wilderness where the wild is unforgiving. In Runescape, whenever a player dies, they lose whatever they were carrying with them at the time. Sometimes you might end up with items that you don't really need. However, sometimes you can walk away with some cold hard cash.
In the real world, people will do the same thing! They will try to take advantage of you, especially if they know or think that you might have something that can benefit them. So never walk around with too much gold pieces or flashy armor.
2. It takes hard work and dedication to get what you want.
Runescape is unlike many other games. While the goal is to master ever skill and reach level 99, you are free to do almost whatever you like. If you take a closer look at Woodcutting for example, it takes awhile to reach lvl 99. While the lower levels are easier to reach, there is an increase in difficulty as your character begins to climb up in the levels. This teaches a lot of patience and persistence. Everyone wants to be the best, but being the best takes time and dedication to your craft.
3. Never look down on anyone.
Have you ever underestimated anyone? Of course, you have. There is always an awkward moment when you see a lower level player completely owning you or someone else. You think to yourself, “how is this even possible!” Never judge a person's character based on the armor that they wear. Most importantly, never look down on anyone because you never know when you will need their assistance on your journey.
4. Life is easier when you are not doing it.
Life is easier when you don't have to it alone. One of the things that make Runescape so exciting is the online community interaction. Being able to chat or talk to another player is a great feature that you find while playing Runescape. While many mistakenly think that gamers are introverted nerds, a lot negate the fact that gamers need other gamers in order to win sometimes. Social interaction wether in real life or through a computer screen makes life more fun!
5. It takes money to make money.
While playing Runescape you are going to get to a point where you are going to have to purchase better tools in order to get to those hard to reach levels. You are also going to have to spend a lot of cash to purchase the materials that you need. It is no different in the real world. If there is something that you want to attain or achieve, be ready to spend the loot if you don't want to lose!
