Everyone knows and understands there is always the "mom"-like figure of the friend group.
The "mom" of the group takes responsibility unintentionally to make sure that all friends are happy and doing OK with school, boys and essentially, just life.
When arriving to college, it was never my plan or intention to become that "person" of the group, but when I did, not only did I find myself enjoying it, but also I noticed several aspects that seem to occur that any "mom" of the group may easily relate to.
1. You are extremely organized and clean.
Every day you recognize yourself Clorox-ing down the room, tidying up any clutter and making sure everything is in line. However, that is not the only thing that you pay attention to. You walk into your friends' rooms and become disgusted with their mess whether it is big or small. You try not to freak out as your real mother would and proceed to hint that they need to clean, or in some cases, you might just clean their room for them.
2. You always seems to be their "one call away."
One of them is having a tough day? You may always guarantee that they will be barging into your room with their issue or calling you immediately to vent. You then find yourself giving life-changing advice that you wish you could listen to in benefit for your own self.
3. You find yourself reminding them to do their homework and be prepared for class.
Seriously, stop watching "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and get to the library so that you can have money like them some day. Money does not grow on trees, ladies. Get to work. Moving forward, you begin to find yourself stressing out over their due dates on top of your own. Also, when the time comes for a paper to be revised, you can always expect a nice email from them asking you to read it over for them.
4. You are always saying, "NO."
It is a tough job making sure that all of your friends are behaving. There are times when you find yourself stubbornly saying, "No" when they ask you if they should do something completely foolish or continue talking to a boy who is not worth their time.
5. You carry around a big purse.
Sure, I will carry everything for you. Do not worry, I have all of of your medications, snacks, chargers; any essential thing that you can think of.
