5 Things To Remember When You're Feeling Down

Everyone knows that life can be a rollercoaster—one minute you might be having the time of your life but the next moment, everything just isn't as wonderful as it seems. Maybe something happens unexpectedly or maybe things just aren't going your way and you feel as if the whole world is just crumbling around you. So here are five things to remember when you are feeling blue:

1. It's not the end of the world.

Yeah, it might really suck right now, but you have to remember it's not going to last forever. Don’t let it get the best of you. Try to keep striving on. It is easier said than done, but just remember in time it will get better. I promise.

2. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I know you just secretly sang that to yourself.

Maybe you are going through a breakup, mourning a death of a loved one or just flat out having a bad day. The pain you feel might feel like someone is just ripping you apart, but there is always something that comes out of experiences, sometimes it can be lesson or just what to expect. Next time you'll be ready, more prepared at what life swings your way and maybe it just won't hurt as much.

3. It is OK to cry.

Life is hard, I won't argue with that. Sometimes a good cry or even letting yourself feel the way you're feeling strangely makes you feel better, so go on and let it out.

4. Have a dance party.

Sometimes being alone is what you might need—a little free time for yourself, without having to feel like anyone is watching or breathing down your neck for once. Crank up some music and have a dance party. Dance all the bad away, it sure helps when I feel like I am on the edge.

5. You are a badass

That's right, you are a badass and don't let anyone tell you anything otherwise. The feeling will pass so keep going. Life goes on and there are many different things to experience, so don’t let anything slow you down.

You might be having a bad day or a bad week or even a bad month, but in time things will get better, I promise. Just remember you are a survivor. If life wants to swing anything your way, just remember you will get through it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
