5 Unpleasantries I'd Rather Experience Than Have To Pack

Packing is always an anxiety-inducing event for me and I'd rather do pretty much anything else.

Last weekend, my husband and I moved with our two children to a new place. Besides all the normal issues that come with moving, the thing that gives me the most anxiety is packing. Everyone always complains about moving the big stuff like beds and couches, but for me, it's the small stuff that always sets me on edge. I find the saying "don't sweat the small stuff" ironic because that's always exactly what freaks me out the most.

On top of disliking packing, I'm also a huge procrastinator, which means that the packing is usually done frantically in the last few days before move-in day. As I see more and more little things scattered throughout the house that I know I need to pack, my anxiety level starts to go through the roof and once again it hits me just how much I hate packing.

In fact, I hate it so much that I'll give you a list of 5 things I'd rather do than pack up my stuff.

1. Watch paint dry

My kids and I can make a game out of who can spot the lighter areas that have dried first!

2. Wax any part of my body

Waxing hurts and it's annoying. But if it keeps me from having to pack up every knick-knack in the bathroom, I'm all for it!

3. Watch Peppa Pig for five hours straight

I really can't stand Peppa Pig. I think the stories are boring and the fact that they snort every four or five words is kind of obnoxious. My kids seem to think it's the funniest thing ever and if it means I can skip packing another box, I suddenly think so too!

4. Take a cold shower

Cold showers should be classified as a form of torture. Maybe it is, I'm not sure. I like the temperature of my showers almost boiling, so stepping into a cold shower is a cruel joke. But not as cruel as realizing it's midnight, you have three more rooms to pack, and you ran out of boxes. No thanks!

5. Doing an entire month's worth of laundry

Laundry is horrible. It's tedious and time-consuming and feels like it never ends. But you know what's worse? PACKING. I'll gladly whine and complain my way through doing 10 loads of laundry AND folding it all the way if it means I can finally stop packing.

Did you know that a latex paint is fully dry after four hours? I know. I watched it.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
