5 Things To Do When That Post-Disney Depression Hits

We've all been there!

5 Things To Do When That Post-Disney Depression Hits

This past week marked my two year anniversary of getting accepted into the Disney College Program. For those of you who may not know, the DCP is a great internship opportunity where you can work at the Disney theme parks, live with other cast members, actually get paid, and get into Disney free on your time off. It's a lot of hard work, of course, late nights, aggravating guests, and tiring days.

Post Disney Depression kind of hit me like a train this week. I was lucky enough to do the program at Walt Disney World in 2015 and again in Disneyland this past summer. That's a lot of Disney, then you leave and that's it. You're done. That was hard for me to grasp, the concept of not being a "cast member" is honestly awful. After making magic for so many guests and families, I go back to college and just start shenanigans with my friends. It is such a stark difference in lifestyles.

So here are a few things you can do when the Disney blues hit ya real good.

1. Put on a Disney Movie.

This week I've watched at least three, and even though you would think it wouldn't help, it really does! It reminds you of the magic you were a part of and gives you a taste of it even when you're not home.

2. Listen to Disney Park music.

I'm not talking songs from movies, there are actual sites dedicated to having all music from the parks, whether it be on attractions, queues, or just random parts of the area. It absolutely takes you back and can be super fulfilling as a minor Disney fix. (soundsofdisneyland.com is a GREAT one. I'm listening to it right now.)

3. Visit your local Disney Store!

Ah, yes, these fossils. It's as if you're going back in time when you step into one of these stores now. They're few and far between, but luckily I have one 20 minutes from me!! I wish I was kidding when I said I teared up walking in the other day; immediately getting engulfed in all things Disney can be extremely emotional when you're as unstable as me. (Kidding, not really.)

4. Literally, go to a Disney Park.

Listen, I know that's a lot of money. I get it. But your need to be fueled with Disney happiness is not going to go away until you actually get yourself back to the park. Nothing is stranger than walking around the place you used to work at, seeing old friends, etc., but you'll feel right at home.

5. Do some Disney crafts.

Maybe this is the ~sorority~ girl in me, but crafting is so satisfying and therapeutic. Working on Disney crafts can bring back all those fond memories, plus you'll get some great stuff to hang in your room!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
