Last week I started my first summer job as a restaurant hostess. From the training session to the busy shifts (it's a pretty popular restaurant) here are a few tips you need to know!
1. Wear comfortable shoes!
It may seem like a no brainer but you seriously have no idea how work-friendly your shoes are until you are on your feet for 6 hours at a time. A good trick is to try walking on a treadmill for half an hour. If your feet feel even the slightest bit sore, find another pair!
2. Have the numbers of other hosts on your phone.
You really never know when you may need a sudden cover for a shift! It's also important to be super nice to your employees so that they'd be more likely to help you out.
3. ALWAYS ask what you should wear as work attire once you get the job.
You have soo much other stuff you need to worry about! Don't make your wardrobe a bigger issue than it needs to be.
4. Have a cue card for those brain fart moments.
Sometimes you have to answer the phone and you just forget what you're meant to say. It happens to the best of us. But the greatest of us keep a cue card nearby!
5. Love your job.
You can be an Oscar-winning actor(ess) for all we know. But if you don't love what you do then the long shifts will wear away that fake smile.
