There are a few things that we probably haven't thanked our big brothers for teaching us. Growing up with an older brother isn't always easy; one moment they can be your best friend, and the next they can be your worst enemy. One thing that is true is that they will always be there, through thick and thin, to guide you in life.
1. Don't Cry
Sure, your therapist may tell you that it is unhealthy to keep everything bottled up inside, but your big brother says otherwise. Whether you learned this lesson when you were eight years old and he "accidentally" hit you or when you were 16 and he said something mean while you were on your period, the lesson stuck.
2. How to be Competitive
You grew up being one of the best players on your sports team, all thanks to your big bro. When you were little, he pushed you down no matter what game you were playing outside, but as you got older your only goal was to beat him just one time (even though it probably never happened because somehow he was good at everything).
3. How to Stick up for Yourself
After all the times you guys have argued, you got pretty good at winning, and it has even made you consider being a lawyer because you're so good. He might claim that he let you win just to shut you up, but he is probably lying.
4. To Like "Star Wars"
You absolutely refused to watch "Star Wars" your whole life, and your brother tried to convince you boys would think you were cool if you watched them. Finally you gave in to his constant pestering to watch when he needed someone to go see "The Force Awakens" with because you wanted movie theater popcorn, but you'll never admit that you actually liked it.
And most importantly...
5. Trust
All your life, your big brother has played pranks on you, but when it comes down to it, he is someone you will always be able to go to. Whether you need advice or someone to tell a secret, he will listen. He has set a precedent for what it is like to trust someone, and it's a pretty high standard.
