College is so much harder then you expect it to be. You are suddenly given all of these responsibilities and expected to get a 4.0 GPA. No offense to anyone; that isn't exactly possible. I floundered around my first semester and almost failed a few of my classes. I'm lucky that I had a family to lean on; to help me. As I enter into my second semester of college I thought I'd share some of my wisdom.
1. You have so much freedom... but don't abuse it
When you enter college you have all the freedom you could ever dream of. You can eat junk food for every meal. You get to decide if you really want to go to class. You can binge watch Netflix all day every day. You really have to decide what is important and what isn't. I am proud to admit that I only missed three classes all semester.
2. You actually have to study...
I luckily realized this before it was too far into the semester to make everything up. Some people are just naturally good at school; I am not one of those people. Now that you are in college you get to decide if studying is really important to you. I know we would all rather get home from class and sleep or watch Netflix but some days you just have to force yourself to buckle down and study.

3. Kissing butt gets you pretty far
Sometimes you have to stroke your professor's ego; they are human beings after all. We all like to be complimented and professors are no different. I have learned I have to go into their office hours and ask questions; even if I know the answer. Get on a professor's good side and you are set for the entire semester.
4. You will have crazy professors
I had three crazy professors in my first semester and I have to say I only had four professors all together. I can't go into stories but believe me when I say it was hard to look my professors in the face after some of the things they said. You begin to realize that you just have to smile and nod and pretend to pay attention in the end.
5. Yes the Freshman Fifteen is REAL
I swore that I wasn't going to gain any weight when I started college. Instead I gained my freshman fifteen. The weight gain goes with all of the freedom we are given. We can eat literally whatever we want. You want ice cream for all three meals? Go for it! You want to eat spaghetti four days in a row. Sweet! Maybe we should limit ourselves a little bit though.
