5 Things I Learned My Freshmen Year Of College

1. Do NOT take an 8 am class.

I thought that since I had to be at school for 7:30 for high school that it would not be that hard. I was so terribly wrong. YOU WILL BE EXTREMELY TIRED!! The only reason I got up was because my Dad made sure I was up. My dad was not with me in the mornings to make sure I was dressed and ready to go. I had to motivate myself to get up and try not to look like I got hit by a car. Eventually, I started not to care and just going in what I was sleeping in which brings on the second reason.

2. You Will Have Many I Don’t Care Days.

When I was in High School we had to wear uniforms to school so everyone looked the same. The only way you can tell if I was having a “Do Not Care” day was if my hair was up or if it looked like a pack to seagulls were fighting over a French fry that was stuck in it, but in college it was much more noticeable. If I woke up late on accident or on purpose I was not going to try and look decent. I was just getting out of bed, sticking my hair in a hat, and going to class. Most of the time I was just too tired to even care how I looked, I am not here for a beauty pageant, I am here to learn. After a while I noticed everybody was going to class in their pajamas also.

3. You Really Do Meet Your Best Friends In College.

I never really thought that I was going to make friends in college because I’m socially awkward and weird. I made friends in High School mostly because my friends knew me since pre-school and got to see me grow into this awkward young adult. When I went to college no one knew me and I had a feeling I was going to be an outcast until this guy with curly hair and braces came talk to me during our freshmen orientation. It never really occurred to me in that moment we would become as close as we are now. I tell him everything and I trust him with my life. I also met some awesome people along the way and now have the honor of calling them my “squad” and close friends.

4. Finals Week=HELL

I have never been so stressed out in my life than during finals week. I would not sleep I would just stay up studying. I got a total of 5 hours of sleep on my finals week before the school year ended. I almost cried after my last final. I wanted to drop to the ground on my knees and scream to the heavens to thank God that it was finally over. My mom was telling me well if you would have studied harder throughout the whole semester I would not be so stressed out. She was right but I still would have stressed out because in some classes, if you fail the final you fail the class. I just so happened to be in one of those classes so my stress level was so high it could not be classified on a scale. If anyone who is an incoming freshmen, please learn from my suffering and please pay attention in class and studying all thought out the semester.

5. NEVER SKIP A CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would always tell myself, oh you never missed a day in that class one day is not going to hurt…..but it does hurt. In college they do not review when the class meets for the next time (well not in any of my classes). I thank God that all my professors were nice and posted the lessons for that day on Moodle. Always be thankful for those professors. Some professors tell you tough luck and let you defend yourself. Always go to class, even if you think nothing important is going on, GO!! Most importantly, professors grade you for just being there and that could possibly save you from failing the course.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
