5 Things I've Discovered About Myself During Quarantine

Like many of us, I wasn't thrilled to do go into quarantine instead of spring break. I went home to my parent's house expecting to be there for only a few weeks and now have been there for over two months. At first I wasn't super excited, but now I've been having the best time and it due to really discovering who I am.

Here are 5 things I've figured out about myself in quarantine!

I REALLY love being alone

Before quarantine, I never really thought of myself as a homebody. I loved going out with my friends, partaking in spontaneous trips, and just getting outside. Since quarantine started, I found that I really enjoy staying home and being alone. I love not going anywhere and just keeping to myself. While many of my friends need to constantly be on social media and talking on their phones, I've found that that's not me at all. I don't feel the need to be in constant communication with anyone and everyone in my life and found that I really value the twice-a-week phone calls with my closest friends more so than a continuous texting conversation. At first I thought my lack of communicating would be seen as rude, but luckily I'm blessed with a group of friends that understand I may be MIA for days on end, but it doesn't mean I'm mad at them!

Painting is my new favorite hobby

Since quarantine started, I began watching a lot of art YouTube videos. From pour painting to landscapes, I found that all these were really interesting and fun to watch. Then one day I realized that I could do it too. I got together the small amount of paint I had, an old canvas, and got to painting. I'm not the best at artist things, but this has been so fun! I've found that I love just sitting down and painting whatever I want. I've created some absolute monstrous pieces and some incredibly beautiful ones! This is a hobby that I recommend to anyone and everyone.

I really enjoy ''automatic writing''

Since I'm a writer, I decided that I would try and continue wiring throughout quarantine. I've started partaking in a process called, "Automatic Writing". This process is where you sit down, set a timer for five minutes or so, and then write continuously until the timer goes off. At first this may seem really difficult, but after doing this for two weeks, the process has gotten really fun. By doing this exercise, you'll write down the first things that your brain comes up with. This can be random assortments of words or crazy thoughts you never would have imagined. This process has allowed me to come up with so many new and good ideas for pieces!

It's easy for me to stick to routines

If found that changing habits and sticking to a routine is easier for me than I thought originally. Before quarantine, I never really thought that I'd be someone who needed routines in their daily life. I always just did things sporadically without a schedule. Now that I'm in quarantine, I've found that I need routines to be productive. Small things I've done is creating a skincare routine for myself instead of just giving up after a day. It's the small routines like this that seemed almost impossible to do before that have really helped me stay sane in quarantine. By creating and actually sticking to simple routines like these, I've found that I've been extremely productive in my everyday life!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
