As a little girl, I would always hear stories about teachers and never fully realized how of a stigma there is surrounding becoming an educator. I never considered it much since I did not fully know I wanted to be a teacher until sophomore year of high school, but there are many things that are said to the faces of people that will most likely be teacher their future children and grandchildren. Here are some of most common things that future teachers hear that we are sick of hearing.
1. "You don't make that much money."
So I may not make the best money, but it is not all about the money when you're an educator. You're doing this to change lives and to maybe teach a future President, not about retiring at an age earlier than 60. Though there are many benefits to being a teacher, too.
2. "Are you planning on marrying rich?"

3. "Anyone can be a teacher."
Who ever said being a teacher is easy? Because let me tell you, it is FAR from easy. I know many friends who are Elementary Education/Early Childhood majors and they have to take 7 different classes, all consisting of different subjects. And these are not just classes they can take and forget the information. These students have to remember the information from the start. I think that's more impressive and far more complicated rather than easy. I also heard this many times when I was in high school and for someone who eventually wants to teach in a high school classroom, boy was I wrong.
4. "Is it because you get summers off?"
I mean, I guess that just comes with the job. Due to our "low salary", though, most will still find part-time summer jobs to cover living costs and possibly student loans.
5. "So you want to be in school the rest of your life?"
That's not necessarily what I meant when I said I wanted to teach in a school but sure, if that makes you happy.
