5 Things Every Freshman Needs

I am sure you forgot a few things

5 Things Every Freshman Needs

I just moved to Athens, Ga for my first year of college. I thought that I was entirely ready to go. I had the essentials such as laundry detergent, decorations, and many MANY blankets. However there is a lot of things that I did not see as essentials until I got to campus, so for any college freshman upcoming, here is a list of things you will DEFINETLY need next year

1. Phone Wallet

There is nothing more annoying than having to dig through your bag to find your ID for dining, transportation, or even entering the building. A phone wallet can save you the grief of everyone looking at you as you say sorry multiple times and try your best to get to the multiple cards in your wallet. They can be found at the local target for $5-$10. I spent my first day at school carrying two lanyards so I could have my card and keys.

2. Rolling Cart

My mother told me multiple times that I would need one of these and I did not believe her. I use a rolling cart for food and extra storage. It is easy to move and use. It also provides my roommate and I a way to say "hey! you can take literally any of the food on this shelf" so no one get aggravated or annoyed with asking permission.

3. Slippers

This might be a given, but I did not even think these would be something I needed. Dorm's can be kind of grubby and walking to the bathroom is not ideal. Shower shoes are also not super comfortable. If you just want something nice to walk around the dorm in, get some slipper to save urself from diseases.

4. A Journal

Not everyone is into journaling, but personally I think it is a great way to relieve some of the anxiety that might be felt during the beginning of freshman year. It also is a good way to look back on the memories from some of the best years of your life!

5. A Hopeful Attitude

Remember that everyone is in the same boat as you. Everyone is trying to find their way on campus and make friends. IF you have a good attitude about it all you should be good! College is meant to be fun! Enjoy your time as some of these people you will know for the rest of your life!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
