When it comes to New Year’s, people always struggling trying to figure out what they should do during that time between New Year's Eve and the ball drop. Many people go the safe route and throw parties to bring in the New Year. But that's not the only option. There are many other things that people can do to bring in the New Year. Here is a list of the Top 5 things people can do as they usher the New Year in!

1. Movie Marathon

During the New Year's Eve, my family and I usually have a movie marathon of our favorite movies or the new movies we got for Christmas. Sometimes we stay up until midnight or even 2 o'clock to finish the marathon. It's not necessarily about the movies that makes this so important, but rather, it's the fact that I am with my family.

2. Play Video Games

I know people who play video games that strive to beat their scores, so who not try to beat it before 2017 arrives! I wasn’t a big video game person before I met my boyfriend, well except when I was a kid, I loved playing video games. When I hang out with my boyfriend, I tend to play a video game series called Kingdom Hearts. For those of you who don’t know what Kingdom Hearts is, Kingdom Hearts is a Disney video game where a character named Sora along with two Disney characters you would recognize, Donald Duck and Goofy, go in different worlds based on different Disney movies to defeat these creatures called the Heartless. I've loved the video games since I watched my boyfriend play it.

3. Play Board Games

People can play board games while waiting for the New Year to arrive. There are other board games out there besides Life, Monopoly, and Connect Four. One of the games I played is called Elder Sign by Fantasy Flight Games, created by Richard Launius and Kevin Wilson. This game was inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft, and each player takes a role as an investigator to face the Ancient One. The only thing that would defeat the Ancient One is an Elder Sign. Another game I recommend is Small World. This game is by Days of Wonder Games and created by Phillipe Keyaerts. In this game, you get to be different creatures and claim your land and compete with other players to take that property.

4. Do puzzles

From 100 pieces to even more, people can help each other to put the pieces together.

5. Watch the Countdown

If you don’t want to do any of the things above, just watch the countdown. I bet a lot of people watch the countdown every year anyway.

So here you go. If you don’t know what to do this New Year's Eve, you can try one of the things I suggest.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
