5 Important Things College Has Taught Me
Favim

When my parents first dropped me off at college, I was filled with excitement for what the next four years had in store for me. Little did I know, this was going to be the most exciting and fun time of my life, as well as teach me more than I ever thought possible. I say this because the past few years have completely shaped me into the person I am today.

Here is what college has taught me.

Friendships. I've learned you're going to meet a lot of people. Most you'll never really get to know that well. But some will impact your life for better and worse. I've made friends with people who have made a positive impact on me and will continue to for much more time to come. I've met some inspiring, smart and fun people in college. They have taught me a lot about people and personalities.

Time management. One semester, I balanced a job and 15 credits. While it may not seem difficult, at times it was. It taught me to spend my time WISELY and become a more productive person. Basically, sometimes you have to say NO to going out, and in the end, it makes you more mature. It taught me to balance a schedule and plan my week out before it even started.

Communication skills. I went from being an introvert to putting myself out there and creating a voice for myself. I've learned how to communicate better and more efficiently with people. Communication is important in the real world. Being personable and having skills to carry on a conversation is great.

Food. From cafeteria food that looks questionable to roommates cooking amazing dinners, college has introduced me to different food choices. It's also given me a few new recipes to try out as well.

Different ways of life. I've met people from all over the country. Meeting people with different cultures and ways of life is so interesting to me. It's taught me to be more humble and appreciative. Some people are working crazy hours to pay for school. Some people are here on scholarships. I've learned a lot about different ways of life. I've also learned why I should appreciate my own.

While there's many things college has taught me, these are some I find important. Four years goes by very fast, so make sure to take a break and reflect on it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
