5 Things College Students Have To Be Thankful For This Thanksgiving

As a college student, Thanksgiving break is a great time. You get to leave campus for a few days to go home and eat some really great food with your family. You get to sleep in your own bed in the comforts of your own home again. Thanksgiving break is a reminder though that finals are coming up, which means lots of stress from studying and completing papers and projects on time. Amidst all the stress, some college students might be finding themselves very upset and feeling sorry for themselves. If that happens to you at any point for the rest of the semester, remember as a college student, there is lots you can be thankful for.

1. You have the opportunity to be a college student.

Going to college is not a God given right. There are many people who simply could not go to college who would kill to be in your position. Maybe they couldn't afford it, didn't have the academics, or had another reason they were unable to go to college. It is very important for you to realize the opportunity and advantage you were given and you education is something you should be very grateful to have.

2. A place to call home

Many students away at school have the opportunity to go home for Thanksgiving. Having a place to go home to is something to be thankful for. Not everyone college student will get to go home for Thanksgiving break this year. Maybe they are an international student or have to work, whatever the reason be, it is a blessing to be able to go home and sleep in your owned for the week.

3. Time to Relax

College can be crazy stressful and Thanksgiving break allows students to have some time to themselves. Some time to sleep a little bit and catch up with your friends from home. Some time to think about things other than Biology and Calculus. Breaks are something to be thankful for. After college, you probably won't be getting a week off for Thanksgiving, remember that.

5. Good food to eat

Going home for Thanksgiving means no more cafeteria for the week! Getting to eat a nice home cooked meal is something to be thankful for. As I eat my canned soups and cafeteria meals, I long for a nice home cooked meal at home. Turkey and mashed potatoes are way better than Ramen, just saying!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
