5 Things About Being In A Small Pledge Class

Going to a small university sometimes has its perks, like free admission to any on-campus events! One of the perks I got to experience was being a part of a small pledge class. When I joined my sorority in the spring, I was in a pledge class of seven girls. Don’t get me wrong, the fall pledge class at my university had about 50 girls, but for my non-SEC school, that was a lot. I came to find out that the group of seven girls had something that usually larger pledge classes don't get to experience. Here are the five best things about having a small pledge class:

1. It’s easy to remember everyone's names.

Having 50 or even more than 100 girls in your pledge class means learning names, which can take a really long time. But having to remember seven names is easy. You don’t have to worry about getting the names mixed up either. Plus, more than likely, there isn’t another girl with your exact name.

2. Group pictures turn out funnier than you expect.

When you have a small group of girls trying to take a group picture, you would expect that the picture would be easier to take, right? But for my pledge class, it’s not. Half the time some of you are ready, and the rest of you are trying to figure out if it’s a funny picture or not. We have PLENTY of those candid moments, but in the end we get a perfect picture, even if it’s after taking five or more.

3. You have the greatest group message.

You know you have that one annoying group message you wish would stop blowing up your phone all the time? Well, not with these girls. From sending the day-after formal selfies to asking the ever important “you dressing cute or nah” texts, this group message is the one that gets you through the day. Plus, it’s only seven girls, and it's something that's not really possible for a pledge class of 50.

4. You become closer to one another faster.

We all have our own different personalities, but that’s what makes us unique. You’re able to get to know the girls on a more personal level. We’re so comfortable around each other that we don’t hesitate to text in our group message if we need some advice. From the horrible “guess what happened last night” texts or little blonde moments in which you ask, “Are talons like claws?” we have each other’s backs, and there’s no denying it.

5. Sisterhood is stronger.

Don’t get me wrong, you have 100 women in your chapter that you genuinely care for, but that small pledge class of yours is dear to your heart. Together, you all grow and make sure that you all know your fraternity’s creed. You stress to your small pledge class how special it is to live it out day by day and make your founders proud. The definition of a sister becomes so much more evident.

I’m not saying that larger pledge classes don’t have this special bond, all I know is that this small group of girls are the best thing that has happened to me in college, along with pledging my sorority. I wouldn’t trade these girls for anything. You girls know who exactly who you are. #ForeverPhis

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
