It's one of the most wonderful weeks of the year, Thanksgiving week! *insert internal screaming* However, for a few moments let's forget about the mashed potatoes and gravy, the stuffing, and that delicious golden brown turkey. Let's focus on the 5 things that you can always be thankful for, no matter what situation you are currently in.
1. You are alive.
Who has forgotten to thank God for being alive this morning? I really hope that most of you are raising your hands because we all do it. As soon as we wake up, we immediately start thinking about those papers due, going to work, all the problems we are currently facing, that we forget to simply be happy to be alive. When you wake up, someone is taking their last breath and we all need to be thankful that we woke up this morning.
2. If you're going through something tough or heartbreaking right now, it gets better!
Think back on your life really quick, has anything bad lasted forever? Your answer is no right? Well, it should be because it's true! If you really think about it, the worst times of our lives are right before the greatest. That is something to truly be thankful for. As a wise wizard once said "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times; if one only remembers to turn on the light." (10 points to whoever can name that character)
3. Your loved ones.
These are the people who keep you grounded and encouraged you to your best in life. That is something to be so thankful for. The people that are there for you no matter what and love you despite your flaws. I sometimes forget how important that is and how important they are. I wouldn't be the person I am today without my family and my true best friends. So thanks for bringing me up when I'm at my lowest and for pushing me to better myself.
4. Your ability to be a better and bigger person.
It's never too late to become a better person, and I think that's something to be thankful for. Not only can you be kind, but it also feels so nice when someone is nice to you return. We are human, we make mistakes, and unfortunately we hurt others. However, when we forgive someone and then are kind to them after, it really does leave a wonderful impression on your heart. (Also, if you haven't listened to "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw, do it, it's wonderful)
5. Pets.
Do you ever just look at your dog, or cat, or ferret and think "You are literally the best thing ever and I love you more than most people." I do that a lot because having a pet is so rewarding. I'll admit, they can be super annoying sometimes, but at the end of the day, sometimes they're just what you need. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have my two dogs, so if you don't have a pet, invest in one because they are wonderful.
When in doubt, hopefully, you remember these 5 things over the holidays and remember to thank God for them. You honestly never know when they will be taken away from you, now you can go back to thinking about all of the delicious Thanksgiving food.
