5 Thing I'm Glad I Did In My First Semester

As finals week comes to a close, and friends begin leaving for home, I've been reflecting on my first semester of college. It's been a whirlwind, to say the least! Throughout these crazy 14 weeks, here are a few things I can remember that I think have changed me for the better.

1. Made new friends

I'm SO glad to say I've found people who support me and love me for who I am. College can be a lonely place sometimes, and without friends, it's hard to make it through. It definitely takes everyone a different amount of time to find the people they fit best with, but once you find them your whole life is changed! I want to say thank you to all the friends I've made this semester and for the memories we've shared. I can't wait for more fun in 2018!

2. Went home for a weekend

As much as I loved being at school, probably one of my favorite weekends this semester was when I got to go home! It's a really nice break from the hustle and bustle of college life, and I was so glad to see my family. Being away from home is nice for a while, but I've definitely learned to appreciate a lovingly homemade meal and not having to wear shoes in the shower! Plus, I missed my family! Going home is the perfect way to stay grounded and recharge when you feel like you're about to lose it.

3. Enjoyed my classes

For me, going into the first semester was super nerve-racking because I wasn't sure how I was going to feel in my classes and if I was going to like them. I'm SO glad to say that I actually really enjoyed every class I took and found all of them super interesting. College is about getting a good education, after all! While I did like my classes this semester, I definitely can't wait to start my next semester classes!

4. Got enough sleep

This one was another one I was worried about because college kids are notorious for running on coffee and passing out from exhaustion in public places. While I did have the odd nap in the library, I'm here to tell you that it's actually not impossible to get enough sleep your first-semester college!

5. Had fun

All work and no play is never fun, so I'm glad I got to experience both the educational happiness and social happiness everyone hopes to have in college. Overall, I think I found a good mix of going out and staying in, and this semester has definitely been a blast!

Overall, my first semester has treated me really well. While I'm glad to be going home for winter break, I'm also sad to close the chapter on very important few months of my life. Good thing I get to come back next semester and make loads more memories! See ya soon, 'Cuse!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
