Summertime means you are at home for possibly hours at a time, and it definitely means boredom if your friends are what feels like a million miles away. Summertime also means that most of your favorite shows have ended, and it usually means grasping at straws regarding interesting shows to watch since you're obviously caught up on everything via Netflix and Hulu. If you don't like summer television you're missing out though, because summer time means the return of some pretty amazing shows, and the premieres of what looks like promising ones. Here are five standouts amongst the crowd:
1. Orange Is the New Black
Obviously. I mean, do I really have to explain why you should watch this show? I'm semi-prepared for going to prison if I ever have to (pads for shower shoes anyone?). The crowd favorite releases Season 3 June 12 on Netflix at 12:01AM.
2. UnREAL
Okay, I know this is on the Lifetime Channel, but bear with me here. The show's plot is that it is a behind-the-scenes look at reality TV From the previews I've seen it looks like the show is based off The Bachelor, and I know everyone loves The Bachelor. The plot line is following the producers of a reality TV show, and it shows how they get what they want out of their contestants. God it looks good, and good as in it looks totally trashy and like something you watch with your mom or friends. It premieres Monday June 1, and I'm sure if you miss that re-runs will be on their way.
3. Becoming Us
With the debut of the beautiful Caitlyn Jenner, and the world constantly changing, this show is premiering at the perfect time. The story follows a teenager whose father is transitioning to become a woman, and boy does it look heartwarming folks. The show is being released on ABC Family June 8.
4. True Detective
Now, I know that not everyone has HBO. But I would seriously consider begging a friend for their HBOGO password just to watch this show. It is unreal how good it is, the first season blew me out of the water. Season Two looks like it's going to premiere June 9, so that leaves about a week for those of you who are behind to catch up. This show will literally bring you through twists and turns and is so well made that even if you do not enjoy the mystery genre you will still be able to appreciate True Detective. (Also this season has Rachel McAdams in it).
5. Hannibal
Oh.My.God. If you're behind on this show, catch.up. You don't have much time since the show premieres June 4, but if you can cram two seasons of a show into a couple of days do it. If you enjoy Drama or Gritty Crime shows this show will intrigue you beyond belief, it is a little dark though so you have been warned. But this show is hands down my favorite on television and I recommend this show more than any other. You will thank me people.
