When a college student is asked what their plans are for the summer, many will reply working, travelling, or sleeping. A good nights sleep feels so good, especially when you know you don't have to set an alarm for the next day. While your phone may say one thing, nature has something else in store. The hustle and bustle of everyday life is enough to wake you whether you like it or not. These alarms include, but are not limited to:

1. Birds

The early bird gets the worm and if the birds happen to be your alarm clock, then that statement clearly doesn't apply to you. The bird alarm is a more rare occurrence, as it all depends on how many birds are in the area. If they are all hanging out and chirping together, then you will probably have a sweet song to wake you up.

2. Construction

This one also depends on where you live and what is going on. In Chicago, there is always construction when there isn't snow on the ground. If where you live for the summer fits that statement, then get ready for a wild ride. Beeping, drilling, breaking, and yelling will fill your summer mornings.

3. Dogs

Whether you have them or not, dogs can be a great (or annoying?) alarm. If there are multiple in a neighborhood, as soon as one starts you have a symphony of barks.

4. Family

Picture this: its Saturday morning. You don't have work, so you are asleep. Not for long, though, as your whole family is already up and making noise. People are talking, cooking, cleaning, and before you know it, someone is pulling the covers off your warm and toasty bed.

5. Phone Calls

If you get a wake-up call, that probably means its about time you get up. Friends wanting to make plans are a sure sign you were about to sleep the day away, as they tend to sleep just as long as you do. While you may be annoyed with them during the phone call, after you will be thankful as you rise before three in the afternoon.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
