Being home from college is great but the time goes by so slow. All semester long you count down the days until summer vacation. But the reality is that one or two weeks in to summer, you wish you were back at school. Seeing family is great and all but after a short time, you start to realize why you decided to go away for college anyway. Summer should be a time for relaxing not wishing you were back at school. So here is a list of things that college students miss while they are home for the summer.

1. Freedom.

When you are home in the summer you have to check in with your parents pretty much 24/7. When you are at school you could go to Walmart or Tacobell at 2 am and have no one wondering where you are and having to be back at a certain time. At school you can have whoever you want over and they can stay for however long. At home you are limited to your family and the time that they can stay until.

2. Being within walking distance of your friends.

At school you are lucky to have friends next to you or somewhere in your hall. If you miss a friend, you could literally see them in 5 minutes or less. At home, most friends don't live in walking distance of your home, so it takes a little bit longer to see them.

3. Living with friends is better than siblings.

Yes you love your siblings, but living with them can be a lot at times. You tend to fight over stupid things and get annoyed really easily. Living with friends is always a fun time because living with someone you become closer than ever.

4. Having responsibilities.

At school yes you have some responsibilities to go to class, do laundry and what not. But at home you have help around the house with stupid chores. At school you can push things off until the end, but at home you have parents nagging you for everything.

5. Everything is in walking distance.

The gym, class, food, the library, and friends. At school you can wake up at 8:20am for an 8:30am class. At home if you have to be somewhere to be, you have to leave at least 20-30 minutes before you need to be there. Food is always the closest. At home if you want any kind of food, you need to drive a bit.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
