We've all seen Pinterest fails. Projects that looked great in photos, but ended up looking similar to the artwork you made in Kindergarten. I was once a Pinterest skeptic, but when I saw this craft I just had to try it. String art is not only incredibly easy, it is relatively inexpensive, fun to do, and looks extremely impressive. Here are five steps for completing this craft that is sure to please.

Step 1: Collect materials

For this project you will need:

a sturdy piece of foam or wood

a package of nails

colored string, thread, or embroidery floss

a hammer

scissors

a printed outline of your state or another shape of your choosing

Step 2: Nailing the design (literally)

Center the paper outline on your piece of foam or wood and using the hammer, tap nails along the entire outline. Place the nails at equal distance apart, making sure there is space between them. When the entire outline has been filled in with nails, gently tear away the paper underneath. If there are a few small bits of paper left, this is fine. They will not be visible when the project is completed.

Step 3: (optional) Heart Design

This step is optional, but adds character to the final piece, particularly if you have chosen the state design. Take some of the remaining nails, and form a heart shape inside the outline. For my piece, I chose to place the heart on my hometown of Appleton, WI.

Step 4: Decorate with String

There are two options for how to complete this step. Begin by tying one end of your string or embroidery floss to one of the outer nails. The first option is to run the string back and forth across the outline, wrapping it on random nails. This creates a web effect. The method I chose was connecting each individual outer nail, with one of the nails on the heart design. As you work your way along the edge of the outline, wrap the string first on the outer nail then on one of the nails of the heart. After the outline has been completely covered, an optional final step is the run red string across the heart design, filling it in.

Step 5: Display

When the project is complete you can proudly display it. This project is a great piece to decorate a home, room, or office. Be sure to share some pictures on social media to show off your work to family and friends. Happy Crafting!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
