As the days of newspapers are dwindling further and further away, the way we receive news and information is easier than ever before. It's on our social media feeds, it's on our televisions, and it's even in our inboxes. If you're anything like me, you love to know what's going on in every aspect of the world. You want the news, you want the celebrity gossip, and you want to read stories and anecdotes about people you probably don't know. Here are a few wonderful newsletters you can receive straight to your inbox:
1. Need2Know
The most important email of my day is my Need2Know daily email! This awesome organization breaks down the hottest headlines from world news to entertainment in just 11 sections, with links to major news sources. They also feature a hilarious "retweet" everyday, which is the perfect ending note. So grab your morning coffee and check your email on the way to class, and you'll be on top of the current events for the day!
2. theSkimm
This daily letter is composed by two 20-something friends who met while studying abroad in Italy and reconnected when they both became NBC News producers post-grad. As roommates, they came up with an idea for convenient news with an entertaining twist, beginning what is now known as theSkimm. Their sections vary per letter, but they always include a break down of important headlines and my personal favorite section, "Repeat after me...," which gives situational advice like "What to say when you check your bank account after a vacation."
3. Quartz
Quartz is geared towards "business people in the new global economy," but the content they produce is fantastic, regardless of your career. Their creative journalism style creates more than just the headlines you're seeing everywhere else. As they state in the "About" section of their site, Quartz' "coverage of this new global economy is rooted in a set of defining obsessions: core topics and knotty questions of seismic importance to business professionals."
US News editor, Lindsey Rogers Cook (who just got married this weekend... congrats girl!), lays out what's going on in the world in a simple format: What's Up and What's Down, rounding up the best articles about everything from the martinis consumed by the current Bond, to the population and economy in Puerto Rico.
5. Lenny Letter
Dynamic duo, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner lay out Politics, style, health and work in their twice-weekly newsletter, Lenny Letter. They have interviews with powerful female politicians, stories about controversial topics like illegal abortion, and writers like Jennifer Lawrence. Lenny is relatively new to the scene, but they are definitely making a huge splash!
