5 Songs For When You Drop A Toxic Relationship
TheVirtualDenise

No matter where you are from, we as humans always have to deal with toxic people in our lives. Sometimes, it takes years figuring out that a person is toxic. Other times, it takes five seconds of knowing them to realize that a person is toxic. Or somewhere in between.

Sometimes, the relationship can be salvaged, but other times it cannot. When it comes to the relationships where there is no way to mend the relationship, we have to ask ourselves, "Is it worth it?". And when the answer is "no", dropping the relationship is the hardest thing to do. Once a toxic relationship is dropped (and by "dropped" I don't mean you "ghosted" the person), you find your voice, you find yourself in a better mental state, and you find yourself stronger than ever.

Below I have compiled a playlist of songs for when you drop that toxic relationship to further express the freedom one finds after freeing themselves from a toxic relationship.

1. "For My Sake" - Shinedown

When you decide to drop a toxic relationship, you have to face the beast and call them to the carpet. There are times where the person will change their habits, but (from my personal experience) the majority of the time they will not accept that they are in the wrong. This song is all about dropping the relationship when they will not change. "So I'm taking you on, I'm calling you out./There's nothing left for us here now./Let's be honest, I promise, I'm never lookin' back for my sake."

2. "Sick of Me" - Beartooth

We as humans often try to adapt ourselves to the environment we are given. When someone is in a toxic relationship, they may find ways to avoid certain behaviors to prevent getting the toxic person upset. By doing so, one can become a completely different person and almost coward-like. However, once that person realizes that enough is enough and drops the relationship, they are able to regain who they once were. In this song, I find that story. "'Cause I'm sick of the person I used to be/So stressed out, burned out, living in my agony/Hate all the words that they said to me/...I'm sick of you/I'm sick of me/I'm sick of the person I used to be."

3. "It's Not Me, It's You" - Skillet

The hardest part about being in a toxic relationship is coming to terms that you yourself are not the issue, it's them. Often, when you address a toxic person they will place the blame on you because, like any other human, they have a difficult time admitting they are wrong. This song is all about getting the story straight. "It's not me, it's you/All the lies and pain you put me through/I know that it's not me, it's you."

4. "The Soldier" - Lacey Sturm

More times than not, a toxic person will belittle you, break boundaries, and cause so much anxiety where one can become frightened to be around said toxic person. When it comes to facing the beast, you have to stand your ground and deal with the fear head-on. This song is all about standing up and finding that courage to say enough is enough. "So what, you raise your voice?/I'm screaming back my choice/'Cause I sure ain't scared of you anymore."

5. "Done." - The Band Perry

Though this song does not fit into the same genre of music as the others listed above, it's still a great "in your face" song. This song is all about realizing you're done with the relationship. "Mama always told me that I should play nice/ She didn't know you when she gave me that advice/I'm through, with you/ You're one bridge I'd like to burn/ Bottle up the ashes, smash the urn/ I'm through with you, la ti da." The chorus says it all.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
