Whether we want to admit it or not, cellphone addictions are a very common reality facing newer generations. But don’t be too fearful, because there are small, easy, and effective methods to help you set your phone down and reduce the temptation to pick it back up again. What’s so great about these tips is that even just accomplishing one or two of these can significantly minimize how much time you spend looking at your little hand-held screen. The key thing to make this work, however, is that you have to actually want to change your behavior. If you want to make your life and relationships more meaningful, then you will have enough motivation to conquer your addiction.

1. Stop scrolling before bed or immediately when you wake up.

Using your phone before bed can actually make it harder to fall asleep, so not using your phone at this time has an added bonus--who doesn't want better sleep? Also, if you're with your partner, use this time to relax with them rather than separately look at your phones. Appreciate the little moments that you can interact with people that are important to you.

2. Hold your friends accountable.

Nothing is more awkward than sitting at a table when everyone is on their phones and you're just sitting there staring at them waiting for them to look up. Don't be afraid to ask someone to let go of their phone--if you're taking the time to hang out with them, you deserve the respect of their attention. This can also reduce your own temptation to avoid the awkwardness by getting on your phone as well.

3. When walking somewhere, put your phone in your bag.

For example, if you're walking to class, put your phone in your backpack so you're not tempted to scroll through social media at every step. This will help you avoid the embarrassment of running into things (or people) because you weren't paying attention. Just remember: when you take little steps to reduce your phone usage, your overall temptation and habit will be minimized.

4. Limit how many social media outlets and games you have on your phone.

Pick your favorite apps, and delete the rest that doesn't matter. Not only will this de-clutter your phone, but you won't have the added incentive to do more mindless things on your phone instead of enjoying your surroundings.

5. Leave it on silent unless you're expecting an important phone call.

We all know it's way too tempting to ignore the chimes of notifications popping up, so silence them! Allow yourself to check your phone at your own pace--allow yourself to be blissfully unaware. I promise that you won't forget to check your phone and leave all your friends hanging, but silencing your phone can help minimize your constant reaction to your phone calling out your name.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
