Philadelphia University is a smaller college, but the large amount of diversity and talent that floods our campus can be overwhelming. PhilaU has so many unique characteristics it’s hard to list them all. To make it simpler, we condensed it into 5 easy and memorable signs.
1. Chicken Finger Thursday
One of the many popular traditions that sweep main campus every Thursday. Once the clock hits 12:15 and free period begins, students flood Common Thread on the bottom floor of Kanbar. Some students go for the traditional chicken fingers and fries, and others go for the specialty chicken finger wrap. No matter how you do it, Chicken Finger Thursday is practically a weekly holiday for PhilaU students.
2. The slogan “Powered to do what’s now, powered to do what’s next” is burned into your head
We’ve heard it since we were prospective students. "Powered to do what’s now, powered to do what’s next," is Philadelphia University's slogan and go-to catchphrase. Not to mention, there is a huge banner with the slogan plastered across it right behind the ram statue. You can also find the slogan on all of the PhilaU banners on the lamppost’s throughout campus.
3. If you’re a regular hat wearer, Dr. Spinelli has talked to you
Dr. Spinelli is known for this signature hat with a long brim. He is also known for commenting on the looks of many students hats around campus. If your hat stands out, be sure to cross paths with him on a day you’re wearing it.
4. You’re either freezing cold or extremely hot in The DEC Center
DEC is notorious for it’s random, yet pretty significant temperature changes. One day you’ll go into DEC and it will be 20 degrees lower then normal. Next time you go to DEC, you’ll dress accordingly, and it’ll be way hotter than more. We can’t catch a break!
5. You’ve had an encounter with the main campus Ram Van driver
Whether it be waiting for the Ram Van for way longer than normal, to her laughing to herself while you’re alone, everyone has had an odd encounter with her. Don’t get it twisted though, she’s a very nice lady. But don’t depend on the main campus Ram Van if you need to get somewhere while you’re pressed for time.
