As the youngest in a pair of two sisters, I am contractually obligated to present the reasons why younger sisters are the world's version of angels, despite the differing opinions some might have. We weren't there from the start, but we're here now and ready to be your second in command in the war against a common enemy: our parents.
1. You're no longer the "baby" of the family.
Thrust into the world of adults, older siblings now get new responsibilities and new privileges. There are pros and cons to this for us younger girls. For example, though my sister is only a year older she constantly told me to respect my elders (meaning her) so all the newfound power clearly went to her head.
2. We look up to you, and will probably listen to your word over our parents'.
In my earlier days I took my sisters word to be law. When she was in timeout she would send me to bring her toys, and I continued to provide this service, even after my mom specifically told me not to. Having a younger sister is like having a foot solider, until we wise up and realize we would get in less trouble if we started thinking for ourselves.
3. You've gained someone to challenge you, and a co-conspirator.
Fighting with my sister was second nature. We would argue, bicker, roughhouse, but my sister and I definitely had some plots that were CIA-worthy. It's like living in an empire where there are all-powerful rulers, and a small resistance of two does what they can to fight for rights (AKA staying up late or sneaking into the kitchen at midnight).
4. We will defend you to the last breath.
Even though making fun of my sister is considerably my favorite hobby, no one else is allowed to bad-mouth her. Whether it's my parents or someone in school I'll always protect her, if only to keep her in good spirits for when I tease her about multiple times she almost burnt our house down.
5. We understand all your problems.
Whether it's a bad break up, an unfair punishment from our parents, or just a rough week, a younger sister always listens and sympathizes. We don't want to see our role model down in the dumps, and usually give the best advice because learning from our older sister's mistakes makes us wise beyond our years.
No matter what a younger sister will always love her older counterpart, no matter what shenanigans she drags her into.
