I'm the ultimate fangirl when it comes to the Belchers. Bob's Burgers is my favorite show. I own t-shirts, Pop Figures, buttons, DVDs, you name it. I even am going to school so that one day I can work for the show, and Adult Swim. I love this show. If you haven't seen it, here are 5 reasons why you DEFINITELY should.
1. They portray a NORMAL household family dynamic.
They're a family. They're all working to make their mom and pop shop be the best it can be. Whether it's by Gene being in a burger suit was a microphone or by Tina saying "
2. Don't we all want a relationship like Bob and Linda?
Bob and Linda have that relationship where they're not only husband and wife, but they're best friends, too! There's even an episode ("Lindapendent Woman") where Linda gets another job at a grocery store. Bob doesn't tell her that she can't. He doesn't have a fit that he won't be the sole "breadwinner" of the family. He gets sad because he MISSES his wife. Linda is his best friend, he just misses having her around. Even though he can run the restaurant by himself, he doesn't want to. Linda makes the job fun, and working with the person he loves makes the restaurant worth running. Plus, he'll never understand her weird way of paying bills and systematically bouncing checks.
3. The kids are frickin' hilarious.
Whether it's Gene running around calling himself "Beefsquatch," or TIna writing erotic friend fiction, there's always Louise screaming "I'LL SEE YOU IN HELL!" All three of the kids are hilarious throughout the show. Different episodes focus on each one of the kids. The character development throughout all 7 and now 8th season is incredible. Throughout the show, they all start to grow up in their own way. Gene finds a girlfriend and learns to care about others. Tina is still boy crazy..but a little bit less than before. Louise starts to realize how much she really does need her family. For example, in "Fluoise," Louise gets the flu. The Belcher's accidentally melt her favorite toy, Kuchi Kopi. Louise is hurt and shuns them all. She has fever dreams due to the flu, and her subconscious reminds her that her family DOES love her- they just made a mistake. All turns out alright in the end, she forgives them, and they even replace the toy!
4. There's a great sibling love goin' on.
\
All of the Belcher kids really are main characters. Each kid: Tina, Louise, and Gene, all are talented. Gene spices up shows with his musical numbers. Tina is a lovable teen who just wants guys' attention. Louise is that girl who looks tough but would always put family first. All of the kids support and love each other. In the episode "Speakeasy Rider" all of the kids join a go-kart league. To decide the driver, they all pull hairs out of Gene's hairy mole. Pulling the shortest straw kinda deal. Louise wins, Tina's jealous, and Gene decides to wave flags. Tina ends up being the driver for Kingshead Island, and Louise feels betrayed. She can't believe how Tina could abandon team Belcher! In the end, all of the kids ban together and Tina pushes Louise's broken down go-kart across the line. When it comes right down to it, they put family first. I think we could all learn some things from the Belcher kids.
5. The characters are relatable.
"Oh Linda, sweet sweet Linda, trapped in a bad marriage."-- Louise. Just kidding! Louise is just playing around. Louise is a spunky kid and is always being mischievous and trying to learn right from wrong. Everyone had their firecracker phase, whether it was staying up too late, or pranking a guidance counselor. Tina is a relatable teen, trying to find her way amongst the mean girls, boys, and middle school. Gene is just a kid through and through. He loves music, his mom, and candy. Who can't relate to the love of candy?? Bob is an entrepreneur. He's an artist and an awesome cook. He even writes puns on the burger-of-the-day board. Remember the "girls just want to have FENNEL burger?" Cheesy, but so funny. Bob's a family man and an awesome dad. Bob and Linda are killer parents. Linda always takes her kids seriously, no matter what. Whether it's getting out of a book report, or taking the kids trick-or-treating, Linda always has a literal song and dance ready to make things more fun!
If you haven't seen Bob's Burgers, I highly suggest you try it. You may even find out you connect to the characters more than you ever thought possible! I know I did. Besides, Tina is basically me, handling things with a subtle "UHHH..." and laying on the ground until she figures things out. Besides, I'm no hero. I put my bra on one boob at a time like everyone else.
