1. The Scenery
I can promise you that there is nothing like standing on a beach in Biarritz, France or Barcelona, Spain. Many of you have probably stuck your toes in the sand here in the U.S., but have you seen the Mediterranean Sea? What about the architecture in Rome, Italy? The landscaping and views will leave you speechless and make you start to realize how blasé your hometown is.
2. The Food
Though I enjoy a garbage plate or some wings, the food in other countries is extremely unique. The best part about food from different countries is you are first hand exposing yourself to the culture of that place. No matter where you are, you can taste the sweetness of exotic foods. Make sure you bring some Pepto Bismal, you know, in case.
3. The People
I have been to Europe twice and am going to Ireland next summer. The people I have met have changed me forever abroad. Whether it’s simply Americans taking the same tour you are, or your eccentric Spanish bus driver; you make friendships that strengthen your sense of diversity and individuality. You can learn things from these people. Best of all, you have a person to call and say, “If I fly to Paris, can I sleep on your couch?”
4. The History
I was never big into history. This changed, however, when I traveled to Europe. How many people that you know can say that they have seen the Mona Lisa in person? Or have seen the Coliseum? Don't you want to say you saw it first hand? Every place has its own story, and when you go there, you can actually see what you read about in history books.
5. The Experience
This is most important. When you travel you are experiencing so much; the culture, the people, the fashion, everything. Being able to experience all of that is something you will never forget. Every day I look back on the picture I have taken on my trips and wish I could transport myself back to that time. Through travels, you grow as a person both individually and collectively.
Don’t be that person that sits on their couch when they’re 70 and says, “What if…”
