5 Reasons You Should Go On That Mission Trip
Christy Cornett

What is it about going to another country that scares the living daylights out of you? Why is the idea of being somewhere that is less advanced than your home nation so scary? Well, our United States comfort can't reach to the ends of the earth unless we go, share, and minister in the countries around us. Want some solid reasons to get up and go? Let me tell you why going will be the best decision you ever make.

1. The babies are adorable.

Have you ever been on Pinterest and seen those cute, little children from other countries? Yeah. You wanna hold one. The kids are precious. In third world countries, orphanages especially, they crave your attention and love. They beg for you to pick them up and just cuddle with them. It's so eye-opening to see how they want someone they don't even know to hold them. The love you receive from one hug is indescribable. In one solid second, they've stolen your heart. You just can't resist it.

2. You learn more about yourself.

Have you ever wondered what you're actually scared of when you're in another country? The idea of going somewhere unknown can be so scary, but it is also a learning experience. You will definitely notice traits in yourself that you will not otherwise see when you're cooped up in your house watching Netflix. I'm not saying that watching Netflix is a bad thing (if it is, I'm equally guilty), but how much does that actually teach you about yourself and the love of your God? Absolutely nothing. So, if you're interested in finding out what God really created you to do and you want to receive a blessing, go!

3. You're doing the will of your God.

Wow. Isn't this what you were created to do? Hasn't God put you here to spread His word? This is such an important concept to realize. Our God created YOU for a purpose. Your purpose may not be doing missions overseas forever, but how cool is it to do the great commission. I promise, this is a feeling you can't recreate.

4. You gain a new perspective.

The feeling of stepping off the plane back onto your home soil and knowing you made a difference can change everything. Your outlook on life has been completely turned upside down. The second you see something that used to be normal, you realize how abnormal it actually is. You may now realize the things you have and the things you want are so minuscule to what you just experienced. This takes your thankfulness to a whole new level. Can you be more thankful to live in a country that respects you, cares for you, and keeps you safe? Every time I come home from a mission trip I am reminded of how blessed I really am.

5. That country becomes a piece of your heart.

When you leave, one piece of your heart always remains. I know this is cliche, but it's so true. That one kid you hugged, the family you shared Jesus with, or just the random man you waved at on the road, become a constant thought in your mind. You will never forget the smiles, the hugs, the tears, and most importantly, the love.

So, if you're one of those people who wants to go but just don't think you can, I promise, YOU CAN DO IT. You were created for this, and God will see it through. He will put opportunities in your path and open doors if you make yourself available to his will. Don't hesitate! Get up and GO. You won't regret it.

Matthew 28:19-20 // Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
