I know what you are thinking, “What? Your 20s? You are young, and have all the opportunities you could ask for.” And I get that. I get that this is the age that everything falls together and you get to make your own decisions, but even after all this, being in your 20s is no walk in the park.
1. Though you are free to make your own decisions, this is the first time you have to take responsibility for them all.
When you are younger the decisions you make are made with your parents taking responsibility. “Kids will be kids, I am sorry. I'll talk to them.” Your parents took the blame for you. “They are only dumb teens; they will grow up eventually.” Well, eventually has come and we didn’t realize exactly how much our parents helped us out. Now our decisions can greatly affect our lives, and that’s tough to deal with.
Until now your parents probably have been floating the bill, whether it be your phone, groceries, and whatever else. Now you have rent, electricity, water, and your phone etc. Due to this, eating off the dollar menu seems like a luxury.
3. “I don’t know” has become a normal saying coming out of your mouth.
Whether it be "What are you wanting to do tonight?" all the way to someone asking what are you going to do with your life, these three words have become something you say more than you breathe.
4.This is the era of buying fast food and wanting
to stay fit.
We would buy healthy food but lets face it, a burger on the dollar menu is less prep and less money than the cucumber salad and salmon that all the health channels insist you try. So we spend hours we don’t have flailing around the gym in our last ditch effort to get rid of the "Dr. Pepper and pizza rolls belly" that has accumulated.
5. We are too proud to admit that we need a little help.
We can do it. We are responsible adults. And sometimes when we are in over our heads, we want to pick up the phone and call our parents to try to bail us out once again. But no matter how much we want to, we don’t because we don’t want to let anyone down or feel like we are failing.
But even though we go through all these struggles, our 20s are the years that we will always remember. We make our best friends, we make our best memories, we learn from our worst mistakes. Honestly, I am super excited to see where things go from here and I cant wait to begin my next adventure. I wonder where I can go with the $5.46 in my bank account…
