Langston Hughes left us with the question, “What happens to a dream deferred?” A simple answer to that question would be that the dreamer does not get the full gratification of seeing his/her dream come to pass. There is something rewarding about setting your sights high and hitting the mark. Dreams allow us to live extraordinarily different from others, especially when they are distinct to that dreamer. There are a lot of reasons why you should dream big and do everything in your power to chase those dreams! Here are five really good reasons why you should dream big:
1. There's pay off/stability
Have you ever wondered what your purpose was in life? While I may not be able to answer that question for you, I can offer some suggestions. Through dreaming, we find a specific purpose that shapes our life according to that specific instance. For example, if your dream is to become a professional basketball player, you will most likely live a very active lifestyle. This may include spending a lot of time playing basketball in a gym. Your life as a future NBA prospect will be significantly different from a person like myself who spends a lot of time writing in hopes of one day becoming a best-selling author. If you become a professional basketball player like you’ve always dreamt of, your dreams come true.
This leads to the pay off and stability side of dreams. Working a 9 to 5 will lead to a very fixed way of living. One becomes very complacent and comfortable with working for a company with no real vision of their own. The harvest that you reap is greater from your dream than of a paycheck that you get by helping someone else with their own.
2. You could be self-employed
Who doesn't like to do whatever they want? That is what you have to look forward to when you dream big! You get to work when and how you want because you are your own boss, you are in charge. You are the captain of your ship that is sailing to success. A good friend of mine decided that at a very young age he did not want to work for anyone else after leaving his job at Disney. At the time this was very hard for others to grapple because they were so used to living out someone else’s dream. My good friend had made a decision to live out his own. He decided that he wanted to become a software developer and started with branding his own company. To date, he is happier now more than ever. He also has more free time to hang with friends and play basketball, which is always a bonus.
3. There's happiness/gratification – big time
When you dream big, you win big. You join the upper echelon sector of excellence and are able to be happy. A lot of people have this misconception that too much success is bad in means of arrogance. But, you can still be successful and humble! Wanting more does not mean you are a bad or selfish person. It is time to elevate our ways of thinking. Dreaming is good, settling is bad. Even more so, it’s sad! Chant that with me! “Dreaming good, settling sad!" x3.
Dream big because it will make you happier. Your live will be filled with purpose and gratification. A dream is like a fat juicy burger topped with canary yellow American cheese, a slither or two of jalapeño bacon, fresh chopped tomatoes, lettuce with water particles still dripping from the leaf and held together between two fluffy cloud buns on your “cheat day” from your diet. Doesn't that make you want to dream big fellow reader?
4. Think early retirement
Earlier I mentioned that dreamers can be self-employed. What does that mean exactly? You work for yourself! You clock in when you want and clock out when you don't want to, literally. Speaking of clocking out, dreaming allows you the opportunity to retire earlier than other working class civilians! If you retire and decide that you still want to show the world what you got, you can always do what Michael Jordan or Floyd Mayweather did.
5. They're free
Do you enjoy not spending money? If you answered yes that question then dreaming is for you. Dreams are free! When I say free, really I mean “free!” It costs you nothing to dream. Whether it is big or small, they are both free of cost. However, the hustle, the process, the journey itself is sold separately. Do not let this defer you or your dream however.
“Hold fast to your dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.” L.H
