Growing up as a kid who always ate too much rice, or had PB&J for breakfast every morning because we couldn't afford much more than that, being the "fat kid" in school was something I had to learn to deal with. It wasn't up until my second semester in college that I learned that I had boxed myself in, making it difficult to learn, grow and expand my mind (and not my body). I soon realized that I was capable of turning my entire life around.

1. Consistency

My first semester was a complete disaster. Unorganized, forgetful and just plain lazy. It was my first time in a strange dimension (which is conveniently named "college"), and I wasn't sure how to make friends, or good grades. Working out has definitely taught me that to get results, your work must be consistent. A plan must be drawn out, and meeting the goals that plan lays out is necessary to receive gainzzz.

2. Positivity

While humans work out, endorphins are released that we feel inside and outside of the gym. If you've ever felt that pump you get after a great set, or after an effective run, it's the endorphins our brain releases. They stick around for a considerable amount of time after the workout. It's a pretty great feeling, especially if you're consistent with it. (See what I did there, tied it together -- so clever, I know).

3. Discipline

Working out consistently teaches us how to discipline ourselves greatly, whether it's to watch what we eat out of the gym, or get that last set in (although our muscles are basically giving up on doing what they're supposed to do). It's an aspect that I'm most proud of learning because it can be applied to so many things around us, especially in school or in the workplace.

4. Drive

Drive is such an important aspect to getting those results. Although we have to achieve and act on the initial drive to hit the gym that first day, we receive a drive afterwards too. We have more energy to get that checklist checked off, and hit the sheets completely worn out from a day of raw success.

5. Gainzzz

Last but not least, results. Gainzzz. Personally losing so much weight, I still wake up some mornings and am completely stunned by how much I've shed off, and how many hours I've put in. Seeing my body fat shred, muscles bulk up and feeling the sweat hitting the floor in the sauna is an unexplainable feeling. There are not many things better than my jeans not fitting anymore, or Timehop/Facebook showing me what I looked like a year ago compared to now.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
