The world of makeup is so extremely diverse and there is such a wide array of tools and products. Makeup is a booming industry in our current society and, though some would say this is a negative, I argue that it's a positive. When a person, regardless of gender, wears makeup, they have their own personal reasons to do so. Everyone has the option of wearing as little or as much makeup as they would like and it should be solely based on their own preference.
1. Makeup can be a confidence booster.
"You're beautiful already! You don't need to wear makeup!" Here's the thing, I frankly don't care. Makeup is extremely personal and I choose to wear it how and when I want to wear it. Everyone has an aspect about them that they might not be extremely happy with so is it not amazing that we have the ability to alter our appearance? When it comes to make up, you can do nearly whatever you please. It should not be frowned upon for someone to alter their appearance in a way that makes them happy. If you want to make your nose appear thinner or hide that zit then feel free to do so! Makeup can make someone feel better about their own face and body just as a trip to the salon can make them feel better about their hair. Enhancing your appearance to your preference is not a crime.
2. Applying makeup is fun.
There are so many aspects about makeup that can trigger a conversation with someone. For a person that has even a slight interest in makeup, it's exciting to talk to friends about different tools/products and watch hours worth of videos on Youtube. There are entire conventions that revolve around the world of makeup and entire stores dedicated to makeup (in which I may or may not tend to spend copious amounts of time). Makeup can be a hobby or it can become a career for those that love it enough. Not only is it fun to learn about and talk about but, actually applying it is really fun. There are so many pretty colors involved and seeing a transformation in appearance, even if it's a slight one, is fascinating.
3. Makeup is a form of art.
Makeup has an entire industry dedicated to it. While it can be a hobby, makeup can also create a career for someone. With so many different tools and products, a person can have a complete transformation. If you were to watch a painting tutorial and a makeup tutorial, the vernacular and the techniques have such a strong resemblance. Different brushes and different ways of using them create entirely different looks. Someone that knows not a thing about makeup would likely struggling replicating a look done by a professional makeup artist.
4. Makeup is a form of expression.
The makeup on my face highly depends on how I am feeling. With so many different techniques and products, there is a look for every event, season, mood, etc. Makeup is highly based on preference and the makeup you wear can help create a persona. A bold lip can signify a bold person. Strong, winged liner brings attention to the eyes. No matter what you want to say with your makeup, there's a way to say it. People say makeup hides a person but, it really shows more about who someone is.
5. It is none of anybody else's business.
Makeup is extremely personal. Why I wear makeup doesn't matter to anybody but myself. Why someone else doesn't wear makeup matters only to them. There is such a stigma in how people are allowed to express themselves and it is a problem. Nobody should be judged based on what brands they use, how they apply their makeup, or the amount of makeup they wear. What's between someone's legs shouldn't decide whether or not a person wears makeup. Not everyone has to wear makeup. Makeup should solely be preference based.
