I have been on a paleo kick now for almost a month.
If you do not know what the paleo diet is, here is the 4-1-1.
The paleo diet is a way of eating (or as really committed paleo gurus might say is a "way of life") where you only natural foods such as fruits, vegetables and protein. Any kind of unnatural sugars are a big no-no. It is very strict eating regimen and I know it doesn't sound entirely awesome, I can honestly say that it has changed my relationship with food.
So like I said, I have been doing the paleo diet for about a month now.
I am pleased with the results so far, such as weight loss, but most importantly, I am more pleased at how I feel.
My energy levels are constantly high, my skin is clearer and I feel better overall.
I have tried this before and did a good month of it. But after a month, I decided to modify it. And well, we all know what that means; it was all downhill from there.
Because like all good things, eating clean came to an end.
This time, it feels different, though. I know this will sound corny and foolish, but once I turned 20, I felt like I just needed to get this "health" thing in check. Not that I was unhealthy or didn't feel good about how I was, but I knew I wasn't as great as I could be.
So I decided to give the paleo diet another go-around, and this time, I feel determined to stick it out for as long as I possibly can.
So, if you were ever on the fence about getting on this paleo train, I will give you five reasons why you should hop aboard now.
1. This program helps regulate bad sleeping patterns.
For almost a year now, I have been having really bad anxiety. The worst part about it is that I am too busy throughout the day to notice it, that once I get to bed, all of the suppressed anxiety from the day floods my mind and forces me to stay awake. It got so bad I could only get three hours of sleep most nights. With eating clean however, I never crash during the day. I am pretty much constantly on the same energy levels throughout, so once I go to bed now, I am ultimately exhausted from being constantly on-the-go. I can now rest easier and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start a new day.
2. Your energy will be through the roof!
If you are like me, I crash from low blood sugar all. The. Time. If I do not eat something every two hours, I am down for the count. Before the paleo diet, I would not only crash when I didn't eat, but I would also crash after I ate. Whether it would be from lunch after having a sandwich or just a midday snack, I always felt slow and groggy. Now that I only eat clean foods, I don't have that processed sugar crash like I used to. Now I can rest assured that I am able to be on the go and feel invincible-- at any time of the day.
3. You feel great about yourself!
This is absolutely the most important, because no matter what the scale says, if you are not happy with you, there is no number or size that can change that. Of course with every good thing, it gets worse before it gets better. The first week or so, I felt bloated and frustrated. But after that first week, I started seeing results and feeling better each day. For me personally, if I can go to bed feeling satisfied with who I am and the way I feel, I know I accomplished all that I needed to.
4. It helps clear your skin!
For those who really know me, they know that my skin has been an area of shame and discomfort for me for years. I have tried every cleanser and pill under the sun, and nothing truly helped. It wasn't until I cut out the bad food from my diet where I noticed a complete difference. My skin tone has evened out, my scarring is fading, and my breakouts are few and far between. This is the first time since my very first breakout (like a million years ago) where I have actually felt confident going out in public with no makeup on to cover my face. This may seem dramatic and over the top for some, but for anyone who has gone through a phase, or more so of years like me, with constantly bad skin, you understand how detrimental and hurtful it can be. Trust me, if you haven't tried eating clean to help with your skin, try it for a month! It truly helps!
5. Your cravings go away!
OK, I am not going to lie to you, smelling french fries still makes my mouth water. But honestly I do not really crave any of the bad foods I used to eat. I like the way I feel, and I truly do love the food I am able to have. I love making all of the compliant recipes and being creative in making paleo desserts and snacks (I actually have a Pinterest board dedicated solely for paleo snacks).
I hope I have inspired you to at least try it for a little while, because it is constantly life changing.
So friends, now that I got you hooked, let's talk about the only downside:
No alcohol.
