At the age of 20, I may not be the most worldly but, one thing I know for sure is, dating a Latino is the best decision a girl could ever make. I know, biased, but after reading these six rational reasons, I am confident you will agree.
1. Family Matters
In the Hispanic/Latino culture, family ties are everything, and I’m not just talking about Mom, Dad, Sister, and Brother. It is very common for extended family to not only live close by but also to be heavily involved in the family’s daily lives. If they don’t live close by, however, you can expect them to stay for lengthy periods of time, usually in the extra guest bedrooms or in some cases, the in-law quarters! Family comes first to them, and your Latino BF will be the first to tell you this. That being said, they also understand the importance of your family and will make just as much an effort to spend time with them as you do for his. Holidays become even better for you! Yes, you do share your family time with another and typically much larger family, but you soon realize you have two families to celebrate with and you both end up happy.
2.Food!
This is my absolute favorite reason. There is no greater food in this world than the Latin American cuisine. I know, also a biased statement, but you haven’t had authentic Latin food until becoming an honorary member of a Latin family. Another perk of the large family factor is that almost every member of the family cooks, and cooks well! At any event large or small, you can expect an array of food fit to feed an army. Best part of all, they never let you go home empty-handed.
3. Abuela Is Always Nice To You
Although my encounters with Abuela typically consist of her speaking to me in Spanish and me reacting with a smile, head nod, and the occasional awkward giggle, I never have to worry about sticking out like a sore thumb. Not only Abuela, but the whole family always makes sure you’re well fed and having a good time. Although a big family can be pretty intimidating, you find your place amongst the usual familial chaos.
4. Cousins Galore
Going back to the huge size in family Latinos always have a TON of cousins and typically you can count on quite a few to be around your age. It’s almost like having a bunch of friends who look like and act just like your BF, what could be better? Essentially, by having a Latino boyfriend, you’re gaining an entire new group of friends, always around and just like him!
5.More Caring Than Any Other
All in all, while you sometimes may feel like you’re dating his whole family and simultaneously gaining weight by the minute, I believe Latinos are the most loving of any guy out there. Yes, he can get jealous and tend to be very territorial, but it just further proves how deep his love is for you and, you can rest assured knowing he only wants to give you the world.
