This year, my college took away the privilege of freshman having cars on campus and two months in my freshman year, I'm beginning to realize how much easier my life would be if I had one. Being a freshman is already difficult enough and not having a car just adds fuel to my fire. So here are five reasons why i think a freshman should be allowed to have a car on campus. To start things off...
1. Expense
Being a broke college student basically means if you look in my wallet right now, I seriously think i only have three dollars left from the weekend. That being said If you were to add up how much money I have spent to get in a taxi or an Uber, lets just say i'd have a lot more then the three dollars sitting in my wallet right about now.
2. I'm Trapped
If you are a college student with no car on campus, you know that sometimes you literally feel trapped in your box of a dorm with no place to go and no way of getting there and its the most frustrating feeling ever. Freshman year in a nutshell is basically the equivalent to Spongebob and Partick having fun in that cardboard box.
3. Hitching rides
A skill I have obtained while not wanting to spend money on a taxi and reaching my limit of sanity from staying in my dorm too much is my ability to hitch rides with other students who may have cars on campus. You either have to buy them food in return for their kindness or just simply have a way with words.
4. I'm Homesick
At home, having the freedom of being able to just get in your car and go wherever whenever, whether that be to go see friends or just to drive to get your mind off things, it is one of the greatest feelings, and that simple freedom being taken away makes me so unbelievably homesick.
5. Last but certainly not least, safety
Having to walk basically everywhere means that you always have to have your guard up especially if you go to school in a city like me. So, I'll go on what my mom would say, "Never walk alone, always have a friend with you and never talk to strangers." But imagine if we just had cars, life would kind of be simple again...
