In the midst of the ongoing presidential campaigns, it seems as if the most qualified person for the job is not in the running. While the competition is tight, I believe that perhaps someone else, (OK, maybe anyone else) should have been taken into consideration. Here are five reasons why Ellen Degeneres should actually be the next president of the United States of America.

1. She’s funny

Famous for her daily talk show, Ellen Degeneres has made a name for herself through her unrivaled sense of humor. When she’s not busting a move, she can be found playing practical jokes with other fellow celebrities. Degeneres makes us all laugh because of her trickster tendencies and wit, while the current presidential candidates make us laugh because of the very idea that one of them will actually soon be the leader of our free world.

2. She’s a philanthropist.

Degeneres supports dozens of charities and organizations related to illness, poverty, and natural disasters. She donates thousands of dollars every year to deserving people and causes, significantly changing the lives of many. She also serves as an important role model within the LGBQT community. Basically, Ellen Degeneres is a modern day superhero.

3. She would make a great first female president.

As far as we know, Degeneres is not hiding anything from us (not even emails). Ever since women earned the right to vote in 1920, the country has been anticipating the day when a woman might be elected president. Why not start the trend with a powerful female who has no impending criminal charges?

4. There would be both a female president and a first lady.

Portia de Rossi, Degeneres’s wife of eight years, would make a great first lady. Also known for her role as a humanitarian, Rossi would be the perfect support for Degeneres during her time in office. The only thing better than having a female president and a first lady is nothing. This is the greatest possible thing that could ever happen. #GirlPower

5. She has connections.

Over the years, Ellen Degeneres has built some strong relationships with some very important people. Her show has featured guests including actors, musicians, and politicians alike. From playing practical jokes with Justin Bieber to starring in Beyonce’s music videos to interviewing Hillary Clinton, Degeneres has proven that she has friends in high places. With all of these connections, her extensive charity work, and her potential first lady, it’s quite clear that Ellen Degeneres belongs in office. Vote for Ellen 2016 to “make America great again.”
