5 Reasons Why College Students Hate Going Home For The Summer

1. You have to leave your new friends for three months.

One of the hardest things I had to do in the last week of my freshman year of college was tell all my friends goodbye (even though it's not a true goodbye, it's just a see you later). It's weird when you can't just walk down the hall to hang out with your friends anymore. It's hard to think I spent 18 years without knowing my new friends, and now it's hard just going three months without seeing them!

2. Now you have to deal with your parents all of the time.

Having about 10 months of freedom away from your parents or guardians is pretty awesome! You don't have someone constantly nagging at you all the time. Now that you're back home, all you hear is, " What are you doing?," "Who are you texting?," and "Get up out of bed - it's noon!" You can't be lazy during the summer, because your parents are making you do chores, so say goodbye to lying in bed or on the couch all day!

3. Did I mention you have to work as much as possible, because you're a broke college kid?

Almost every college student knows the struggle of being poor. Sometimes, we only have a dollar in our bank accounts. We all think that we're going to have an awesome summer filled with long nights and adventures. But in reality, we're all spending most of our time working and making a little money to save up for the next school year.

4. You have to see all the people you went to high school with.

There are some people that we just don't want to see again after we are done with high school. Sometimes it even might be someone that used to be your friend. Some people still think that they're in high school and won't let it go. It's time to grow up and let the past go. It's awkward seeing old friends from the past and having nothing in common now, especially when your friendship is not what it was anymore.

5. Then you're suddenly partying with kids in high school...

Once you're home, you will actually start to miss going to all the frat parties and the crammed parties in town houses and apartments. Your parents nag you about what you are wearing when you go out, and the parties you go to back home are the lame bonfires that all the current high school kids show up to.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
