5 Reasons Why College Is Stressful

After spending almost two years in college, I've had a taste of how difficult it can be. It's a struggle worrying about classes, grades and paying the school all while trying to have fun since it is supposed to be the best four years of your life. Below, I've gathered five reasons why I personally think that college is stressful.

1. Tuition

source outsidethebeltway.com

Tuition is one of the first things many people look at when they're searching for a college. They want to know if they can afford the school and if it's actually worth the money. The unfortunate thing is many may think that it's worth every penny but can't afford it. I have sadly had friends who wanted to go to a certain school but couldn't because of how much it costs. No one should have to go through that feeling of defeat, stress and sadness for wanting to study at a specific Institution. Picking a college to go to can sometimes be very difficult and when you finally find one you want to go to but realize that you can't go because how much it costs is discouraging.

2. Keeping grades up

Starting at a young age, you're told to do well in middle school so you can go to a good high school. Then you’re told to do well in high school so you can go to a good college. Now once you're in college, you're told to do well so you can find a well-paying, distinguished job. The stress of making sure that you achieve qualified grades in order to eventually find a suitable place to work can be crippling.

3. Balancing student and social life

Being a student and trying to be social in college can be difficult. You want to hang out with your friends but you may have a paper, test, or project due within the week that is quite time consuming. It's very easy to run off the tracks of focusing on being a student because of all the free time you have. You must make a decision between hanging out with your friends or doing your school work. People always say that college is going to be the best four years of your life, but how is that possible when you're going to be swamped with work? Prioritizing your time is key. This may not always be easy and you may struggle while trying to do so, but in the end you will hopefully find a way to manage being a student and having a social life.

4. Paying back loans

It's so easy to borrow, but hard to pay back. Just thinking about the amount of money you have to return after four years (maybe) of borrowing is mind-boggling. This is one of the many reasons why people second-guess going to college. Paying back that money is a burden you have to live with for years. If you don't find a job or have some type of help paying it back, the amount of stress will triple because whether you have the money or not you have to find some type of way to pay it back.

5. The fear of not finding a job after graduation

source theplannedone.wordpress.com

You're told to not only go to college to get an education, but for you to also find a job. The problem is nowadays that even with or without a degree, almost everyone has trouble finding a job within their profession. After four plus years of hard work and thousands of dollars, you would expect or at least hope to find a few jobs to choose from after graduation. The stress never stops. After worrying about keeping up your grades, tuition and thinking about your loans, you now have to worry about finding a stable source of income to pay your bills. You, of course, would like to find a job within the field of your study because if you don't or at least try to, it all boils down to one question: what was the point of studying the same subject for (maybe) over four years when you can’t even find a job within the field?

Even though I wrote a list of the stress you endure during college, it's totally worth it. You meet great professors, people, and have a whole different outlook on life since you finally and officially step into a new world of freedom and responsibilities. This aids you in developing wisdom and discovering who you are or who you strive to be as a person. If possible, apply to college because as far as I can tell, you definitely won't regret it. The sweat, stress, hard work and tears you endure over the four plus years has a purpose in the end.

Enjoy your week! Xo

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
