Writing has always been a hobby of mine. Ever since I first learned how to read, write, and spell in elementary school, I have written a variety of stories. School essays are even enjoyable to me; as long as there is writing involved, I'm happy. I am not the only one out there who feels that way about writing; there are many people who enjoy crafting stories through written word. There are also people who hate writing with a passion and try to avoid it. Here are 5 reasons to love writing, whether you enjoy it or not.

1. Anyone can write, anywhere

You don't have to be a famous author to be a writer! Anyone can write, whether you do so for public or personal use. Writing isn't one of those hobbies that require a specific setting or materials either. You can write in your house, at work, on a plane, or pretty much anywhere. There are endless mediums in which you can write: laptop, pencil and paper, phone, tablet, etc. Writing is great because you can easily access it anytime and anywhere.

2. Writing serves as an emotional outlet

Sometimes it can be difficult to say what you mean or feel out loud. Writing provides a way to elaborate your feelings without the pressure of speaking them to someone. This is why many people keep diaries or journals; they are ways to talk about frustrations, anger, and other feelings in a format that no one else can see. Writing about any negative feelings you are having can make you feel better, as it is a way to release pent up emotions.

3. Writing can be about anything

You can write about literally anything. It doesn't matter whether you prefer fictional stories, research findings, daily occurrences, or journalism: you can write about whatever your heart desires and about all your passions and dreams. There are endless limits as to what one can write about. Everyone has their own writing style and areas of interest, which helps to make writing so diverse and unique.

4. Writing can encourage imagination

For those who are creative and like to express their imagination through art, writing serves as a creative outlet. This is especially true in fictional writing, but any type of writing requires imagination. You have to think about how you want to get your point across, how you want to structure your sentences, and what words are the best for telling your story. Writing gets you thinking and brings out your right-brain creativity.

5. Writing gives you a voice

If there is a subject you feel strongly about, write about it. If there is an opinion you want to share, write about it. If you want to educate others on a topic, write about it. Writing gives people a way to have their voices heard. Sometimes speaking on a subject vocally isn't enough; writing makes our voices even stronger and allows it to be shared with more people. Writing gives power to our words and passions.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
