As Dorothy once said “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home” and that is completely true in my opinion. Going home for spring break could be one of the smartest, safest, and most restful thing one could ever do for themselves. I personally will be making the venture home, and thought I would tell you why you should do the same, (smart) thing.
1. Your Bed
After sleeping in a dorm bed for weeks on end, the best thing for your mind and your body is to sleep in a bed perfectly formed to your body that isn’t a million years old. Your bed in your bedroom always helps you get a better night's rest and makes you feel more comfortable. Also your bed sometimes comes with your pets that are, statistically speaking, 137.81 percent better than a bed without pets.
2. Your Family
College is great, and having your friends around constantly is also great, but sometimes you need to just be at home with your family without any social pressure. Being able to lie on the couch, eat dinner and not having to constantly be talking to someone else is relaxing and refreshing. It’s also nice to not have to constantly be meeting new people, which is customary when you live in a dorm with hundreds of others, who have friends that wander the halls whenever they want.
3. There’s no risk
Everyone imagines going somewhere warm and fun for spring break, especially living in Minnesota, but there’s a lot of risk in doing so. When you go to Mexico or Florida for break you’re going to be surrounded by overexcited, drunk and careless 20-somethings who are doing dumb things. If you can go somewhere warm and be safe, go for it, but don’t risk your life for something dumb.
4. It’s Cheap
I can’t speak for everyone but outside of staying at school, flying home is a substantially better option than going somewhere. Going home means free food, free Wi-Fi, and my car, whereas going to Mexico would mean a plane, a hotel, food, drinks, transportation and so much more. Outside of the personal benefits, not having to spend an excess of money is incredibly nice.
5. Your pets
I know I mentioned sleeping with your dog earlier in this article BUT I can assure you there are more benefits. If you have a dog, like me, you have someone to cuddle with, to talk to, walk with and so much more. While all pets are nice and fun to be around, I can also assure you that having a dog to spend time with makes everything so much better.
I know not everyone enjoys going home, can’t, it’s not the cheapest option or they clearly don’t have a dog. But if you can, I would suggest you do because ideally it’s the smartest option around. This spring break I encourage you to go home to your family, or even choose to vacation with your family because there’s really no place better than your home.
