They may be a blessing in disguise.

5 Reasons To Be Thankful For Older Brothers

Many sisters who only have brothers make that wish that they could have had an older sister or even a little sister. Regardless, most girls wanted a sister. However, I grew up with two older brothers and I could not be more thankful. Sure, brothers smell most of the time and they sure know how to make little sisters cry but they also have so much love for their sisters. Here are five reasons why growing up with older brothers was the best.

1. They made you tough

No one will be as hard on you as your brothers are. They pick on you, tease you, and sometimes roughen you up a little bit. All of it in good fun though and none of it meant to actually hurt one another. They teach you to not let things stand in your way and to never back down. You probably also learned which pranks actually work and which ones backfire.

2. Helped balance out the girliness in you

Since they were playing sports first, they would always pass down their great knowledge and skills down to you so you could look like a super star. They were the ones you would watch sports with and they would teach you all you needed to go. They would even let you play video games with them... or at least let you pretend like you were playing with them. But then they were always down for a tea party with you and your best-stuffed animal friends.

3. They protect you

Even if they live forever away or you don’t talk to them much anymore they will always be looking out for you. When they hear you went on a date they call you immediately asking for all the details on the new guy who is interested in their little sister. They also love to make their presence known to anyone who comes into their sister's life.

4. Brothers lead to sisters-in-law

Once they get married you automatically get sisters, which gives you one more person to help team up against your brother with. She may be a sister-in-law but really the relationship is more along the line of sisters. You finally have a sister to give you advice and share clothes with. Most importantly, you know that she will look out for your brother and help him out.

5. They are always there

No matter the circumstance and no matter the distance they always are volunteering them to come to wherever you are and beat up whomever it was that hurt you. Need advice, you can call them anytime of day and they will be there to help set you straight.

Be sure to thank your older brother for helping you grow into the person you are today. And don't be too hard on them when they seem to ruin your life. In their eyes, you will always be their little sister with a huge smile on your face.

A big brother's job is to make sure that smile never goes away, so let them do their job.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever.
