The Finger Lakes region in NY is like no other and there are 5 simple reasons why that is true!
There are lakes everywhere in this world, and many more in New York alone but that doesn't change the fact that the Finger Lakes are simply the best of them all. There are the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain but they don't stand up to our great region here. The people are a different breed and during the summer, worries wash away with the wake of our boats, and wine flows like the current.
1. The water has a different feel.
It isn't your typical water, It has a different feel to it. Wether it be the way it looks when the sun hits it just right, or the way it feels on a hot summer day; water just isn't the same anywhere else. Ito outsiders or tourists, it looks like the same old stuff, but to mainstays and inhabitants it is like liquid gold. Something many of us cherish greatly.
2. A boat is a MUST!
If you don't own a boat, you certainly know someone who does. This is where a large majority of your summer is spent. Why waste time doing anything else, when you could tie fifteen boats together and hang out on the water with some real friends. Its a rarity that you see an empty lake, and its almost a scary thought. Even if the weather isn't that great.
3. The people don't take it for granted.
Nobody who lives here takes this region for granted. The drives home from work are gorgeous and nightly we sit on our porches and look over the water. Its a sensational place to visit and an even better place to grow up.
4. Its all about the wine.
When it comes to wine, there are only a handful of places in the world that top the Finger Lakes. Every where you look you see a winery, its like a Starbucks in the city. They are great places to work, they bring in a large amount of tourism and revenue and well obviously great places to drink!
5. Its my home.
I've lived here my whole life, and many who live here round year have. We have grown up swimming in these lakes, biking these hills and hearing so much about the wine. We have never heard of people getting summer homes, and rarely hear people say they want to leave. Sure, our generation is growing up and moving away. That doesn't change the fact that the Finger Lakes are in deed our forever home.
It is undeniable that its beautiful here, but it is not just the lakes and region that are gorgeous. We have wonderful people, wonderful food, and wonderful wine. It is all around a fantastic place to spend your spend time, and an even better place to live.
