When November first comes around it seems everyone jumps straight from Halloween to Christmas. Well, I'm sick of Thanksgiving being treated like the unloved middle child. This year I'm thankful for Thanksgiving and here are some reasons why you should be too.
1. You get time off school and work
Thanksgiving is a federal holiday, folks. You don't have to go to school for a day or three and you probably don't have to work either. How could you not love a holiday that gives you time to sleep in?
2. It's family oriented
Whether you like your family or not, you cannot deny the fact that Thanksgiving is great at bringing people together. Sure you might absolutely dread getting together with your extended family and trying to dodge their questions about why you don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend, but at least they care.
3. It makes you reflect on your life
I don't ever think anyone was thinking about what they were thankful for in life when they were dressed up as a sexy cat on Halloween. While some other Holiday's might seem more fun, because they have presents or are a big party, Thanksgiving is a holiday whose sole purpose to to give thanks and celebrate the good in life. Thanksgiving is so pure and good.
Yes, when we were younger we may have been taught that Thanksgiving is about the Pilgrims landing and sharing food with the Native American, but we all know that's a simmering crock-pot of BS. But now that we realize we've been culturally appropriating for years, we can focus on the good that this holiday was really meant to celebrate.
4. It's the last shred of fall
Let's be real, we all love fall. Especially because we really don't like winter. If we could avoid snow until December 25, we all would totally go for that, but the sad reality is that Thanksgiving is also the day fall dies. We are sometimes lucky enough to celebrate this holiday without snow, but even if we do, it's only going to get colder from here. So grab hold of it, because soon after, the pumpkins will be rotting and it'll begin to look a lot like Christmas and below zero temperatures.
5. Food
While reading this whole list, you were probably wondering when food was going to make an appearance. Well, I saved the best for last. I honestly could have a spot on this list for every Thanksgiving food, but that list would go on forever. Thanksgiving food is LITERALLY the best holiday food. You've got turkey, stuffing, squash, 87 different variations of potatoes, gravy, pie, you name it. Not to mention the leftovers! Now that's something to be truly thankful for.
